Allen “Snook” Edmonds, 83, formerly of McLeansboro, passed away at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015, at 9:45 a.m. He was born on June 11, 1931, in Dale, the son of Charles Edmonds and Eva (Merrell) Edmonds. Survivors include two sons, Michael Edmonds of Traverse City, Mich., and Bill Edmonds of Carmi; two granddaughters, Sasha Allen of Carmi and Cassie Smith and husband Brandon of Carmi; three great-grandsons, Chase Allen, Cade Allen and Triston Allen; three brothers, Lanzel Edmonds, J.R. Edmonds and George Edmonds all of McLeansboro; four sisters, Sybil Gibbons of Harrisburg, Nell Irvin of Dale, Georgetta Webb and Marie Cox, both of McLeansboro. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was a district sales manager for Thermogas in McLeansboro. He attended First General Baptist Church in McLeansboro. He served in the U.S. Marines from 1951 to 1954. He loved riding motorcycles, going boating with friends and attending sporting events. His favorite thing was driving school buses for Hamilton County Schools, taking the players to ballgames and buying them snacks. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at the General Baptist Church in McLeansboro with the Revs. Jason Moore and Robert Sefried officiating. Burial will be at Digby Hill Cemetery in Dale. Graveside military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 106 McLeansboro and the Military Honor Team of Marion. Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at the General Baptist Church in McLeansboro. Arrangements are under the direction of Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
