Bernadine M. Karcher, 90, of McLeansboro, died at 4:48 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2015, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital's emergency room in McLeansboro. She was born Feb. 15, 1925, in Hamilton County, the daughter of Joseph L. Frey and Olivia O. (Kaufman) Frey. She married Leo L. Karcher; he preceded her in death. She is survived by one sister, Doris Karcher of Washington; one brother-in-law, Lee Rubenacker of Dahlgren; six nephews, Alan Rubenacker, Roger L. Rubenacker, Larry Karcher, Donnie Karcher, Mike Karcher and Roger Karcher; and four nieces, Mary Kay Kerrigan, Diane Webber, Lois VanWinkle and Karen Endicott. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Charlene Rubenacker. She was a retired seamstress and restaurant waitress. She was a member of St. Clement's Catholic Church in McLeansboro. Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Monday, June 1, at St. Clement's Catholic Church in McLeansboro with Father George Mauck and Father Slawomir Ptak conducting the funeral mass. The visitation was held 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 31, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with a rosary service at 7 p.m. Burial was held at St. Clement's Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Clement's Cemetery Fund and will be accepted at the church or at Gholson Funeral Home. Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro was in charge of all of the arrangements.
