PEORIABert D. Barnett, 88 passed away December 6, 2016 at Grand View Alzheimers Special Care Center at 9:15 p.m.
He was born December 29, 1927, in Hamilton County, the son of Herman and Cleonia Barnett. He married Wanda Mitchell in McLeansboro, IL on July 28, 1951.
He was a retired school teacher, having taught at Pleasant Valley, Washington Grade School, Wilder-Waite, Pioneer Junior High, and at Banner Elementary before he retired June 3rd, 1987.
Bert loved working in his garden and growing fruit trees, blackberry bushes, and grapes. He always loved playing the guitar, banjo and singing and was a member of the Over the Hill Gang. He also joined in the Forest Park Bluegrass jam sessions for many years, and loved telling jokes. He also was an avid reader.
Bert served in the Navy in WW II and was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Bradley University in 1962.
His is survived by his wife, Wanda, of Peoria, IL, four daughters, Brenda (Larry) Pearson, Gaila (Gary) Morris, Marilyn (Bob) Schultz and Carolyn Gallagher, two brothers, Herman Barnett and Carl (Connie) Barnett, eight grandchildren, several great grandchildren and nephews and nieces. His parents preceded him in death.
Funeral services were December 10th, 2016 with Tim Beddingfield officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hawley Cemetery, Peoria, Illinois.
