Charles “Chuck” Day, 75, of Thompsonville, passed away at his residence on Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at 6:34 a.m. He was born Dec. 22, 1939, in Garrettsville, Ohio, the son of Clifford Kemper Day and Laverne Lezetta (Briniger) Day. He married Ellen Louise (Dial) on Feb. 23, 1961, in Cumberland, Md. Survivors include his wife, Ellen Louise Day of Thompsonville; three daughters, Penny Blades and husband Randy of Johnston City, Laura Chaffin and husband Jeffrey of Stonefort and Bridget Preslar of Benton; four sons, Timothy Day and wife Bonnie of McLeansboro, David Day of Hawthorne, Fla., Michael Day and wife Susan of Mt. Vernon and Patrick Day of Johnston City; 24 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters. He was a truck driver. He was of the Protestant faith. He loved to watch sporting events and westerns, rebuild things, but most of all he “loved to laugh.” At this time there will be no public visitation or funeral service. Mr. Day requested to be cremated and a family memorial service will follow at a later date. Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro is in charge of all arrangements.
