Curtis Randall McDaniel, 77, of Mt. Vernon died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014, at Nature Trail Nursing and Rehab Center, Mt. Vernon. He was born Nov. 18, 1937, in McLeansboro, the son of Loren and Juanita (Tolley) McDaniel. Curtis was an accountant and served as an assistant superintendent of schools. Curtis graduated from McLeansboro Township High School; received a bachelor's degree from Eastern Illinois University and a master's degree from University of Illinois at Springfield. He loved playing tennis, fishing and playing golf. He served in the U.S. Air Force with the rank of S/SGT (T). Surviving are one daughter, Lynn McDaniel of McLeansboro; one son, David McDaniel and wife Mary of Matthews, N.C. ; one brother, Jim McDaniel and wife Joann of Mt. Vernon; three sisters, Connie Meador and husband David of Nashville, Ind., Nancy Clinton and husband Randy of Cookeville, Tenn., and Betty Yess of Princeville; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters. There will be no public visitation or funeral service by his request, and he will be cremated and a private interment of ashes will be held at a later date. Arrangements for Curtis McDaniel are under the direction of Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro.
