Dane Nation, 88, of McLeansboro, died 11:15 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Nature Trail Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Mt. Vernon. He was born July 5, 1925, in Thackeray, the son of Raliegh and Tida (Sparks) Nation. He married Marilyn Jean Leslie on Dec. 10, 2007, in McLeansboro; she survives in McLeansboro. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Mike Nation of McLeansboro and Mark Nation Harrisonburg, Va.; a stepdaughter, Sherry Douthett and husband Jeff of McLeansboro; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Mr. Nation was a Baptist by faith. The was a truck driver. Dane served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Tripoli. Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 15, at Harre Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Burial will be at IOOF Cemetery with graveside military rites accorded by American Legion Post 106 of McLeansboro and the Military Honors Team of Marion. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, at Harre Funeral Home. Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro, is in charge of all arrangements.
