David Lee Johnson, 69, of Belle Rive, died 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015, near McLeansboro. He was born Sept. 11, 1945, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Henry David and Loiuise Fiaco Johnson. He married Barbara Jean Gunter on July 28, 1963; she preceded him in death. Mr. Johnson is survived by a son, David G. Johnson and fiance Paula Schnicker of Galatia; two daughters, Lori L (Scott) Peterson of Belle Rive and Crystal Cisco and companion Darrell Kinnear of McLeansboro; seven grandchildren, Cody, Holly and Lexi Johnson, Harlie Peterson and friend Jarron Morris, Blake Johnson, Kaylen (Brian) Strole and Emmilia Cisco; a step granddaughter, Brooke Burris; a great-grandson, Chase Strole; brothers and sisters, Claire (Eve) Johnson of Mt. Venron, Henry (Cathy) Johnson Jr. of Dahlgren, Dorothy Wilson of Bonnie, Mary Ann (Gabe) Cross of Dahlgren, Debbie (James) Parkhill of Belle Rive and Sandy Smith and friend Frank of Belle Rive; brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald Gunter of McLeansboro, Dan (Marlene) Gunter of Springerton, Fred Gunter of McLeansboro, David Gunter of McLeansboro, Janet Vedeto of McLeansboro and Ruby (Charles) Everett of McLeansboro; special friend Nancy Marcum of Mt. Vernon; and his hunting and fishing buddy, Jim (Gerry) O'Brien of Mt. Vernon. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a grandson, Derrick Chad; sisters-in-law, Brenda Gunter, Caroline Gunter and Rita Gunter; a brother-in-law, Edward Gunter; his father and mother-in-law, Charles and Frieda Gunter; a daughter-in-law, Tina Williams Johnson; and his best friend and hunting and fisherman, Clarence (Jack) and wife Shirley Jones. For 20 years, he worked in parts delivery for Precision National in Mt. Vernon. He also worked at Benoist and retired from Walgreens. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, humming birds and his family. He attended Union Baptist Church and Sugar Camp Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, at 11 a.m. at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery near Dahlgren. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Gholson Funeral Home, McLeansboro.
