Elizabeth Short of Broughton passed away 7:21 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1, 2016, at her home with family by her side.
She was born Aug. 29, 1927, in Dale, the daughter of Mark and Nellie Ruth (Rhupard) Mitchell. She married Ray Denver Short on July 29, 1949, in Morganfield, Ky.; he passed away Sept. 19, 2001.
She is survived by a daughter, Phyllis Ann Short of Broughton; four sisters, Dena Craddock, Ottilee Kaufman, Vada Webber and Ruth Holcomb; a brother, Everett Mitchell; a granddaughter, Amber Dawn Wheeler; two great-grandchildren, Abbie Rae Buttry and Denver Louis Wheeler; a very special friend, Amanda Renee Fromm; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Donald Lee Short; and brothers Ikey, John and Jerry Mitchell.
She was a homemaker. Elizabeth was a protestant by faith.
Elizabeth enjoyed her family and her farm and home was a very special place for her. She was a very selfless homemaker and a farmer's wife. She was a caring mother and a very proud grandmother and great-grandmother. She could look our her kitchen window and see the beautiful farm. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, cooking and all aspects of farm life.
Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at Harre Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Moore officiating. Interment was at Big Hill Cemetery, Broughton.
Visitation was held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6, at Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro.
Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro is in charge of all arrangements.
