Evan Allen Harper, 97, of McLeansboro, passed away 1 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2016, at McLeansboro Healthcare and Rehab Center in McLeansboro.
Evan Allen Harper was born Oct. 23, 1918, son of Marshall and Anna (Allen) Harper. Evan was born in Hamilton County and spent his entire life in the country that he loved and was proud to call home. He loved the country and farm life.
He was a Christian and attended Union Missionary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Howard and Alva; three sisters, Mabel Harper Barr, Hazel Harper Standerfer and Hallie Harper Johnson; nephew, Russell Harper; and niece, Verla Standerfer Wallace.
He is survived by nieces, Dorothy Ann Hamson and husband Dennis of Belle Rive and Darlene Sue Wind and husband Kenneth of Normal; nephews, John Paul Barr of Evansville, Ind., and Stanley Harper and wife Jan of Lansing, Mich.; great-nieces and great-nephews, Kimberly Signorelli and husband Paul and daughter Addison of San Antonio, Gary Barr and wife Jessica and family of Evansville, Ind., Michael Wallace and wife Mary Beth and family of Houston, Cheryl Wollrab of Bloomington, Carol Deavers and husband Dan and family of Normal, David Harper and wife Michelle and family, Nancy Johnson and husband Al and family and Janelle Choma and husband David and family, all of Michigan; and special friends, Vera and Tom Smith of McLeansboro.
Evan loved good food and family gatherings. He was a devoted uncle. He is fondly remembered washing Thanksgiving dishes at the Hamson's.
The past nine months he had an extended family, the caring staff of McLeansboro Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Evan will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews and all that loved him.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Thursday at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Richard McCormick officiating. Burial will be at Union Cemetery in McLeansboro.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday at Harre Funeral Home.
Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro, is in charge of all arrangements.
