George's Story

George H. Logan Sr., 93, of Walpole, passed away Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, 9:15 a.m. at Hamilton Memorial and Rehab Center in McLeansboro. He was born June 14, 1922, in Hamilton County, the son of George Douglas and Agnes (Mace) Logan. George married Norma Jean Reynolds on July 5, 1947. He is survived by two sons, George H. Jr. (Donna) and Darrell (Paula) Logan all of Walpole; one granddaughter, Alisha (Jason) Huls; and two great-granddaughters, Sylvia Logan Huls and Georgia Ruth Huls of O’Fallon; two sisters, Allie Carter and Oma Fern (Homer) Turner; and brother-in-law, Hal Reynolds; numerous step grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma; grandson, George Allan Logan; and three sisters, Geraldine Irvin, Laverne Riggs and Noma Lee Little. George served as a medic in the Army during World War II in Europe under General Patton. He worked as a coal miner as a farmer and was road commissioner in South Twig Township for 22 years. He loved working on his farm and especially raising his horses. Funeral services were 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016, at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia. Visitation was held Feb. 1, from 5 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home. The Revs. Randall Ragan and Mark Cockrum will officiate with burial in the Hebron Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Hebron Cemetery or charity of the donor’s choice.
