Gwendolyn E. Carlton, 68, of Peoria and formerly of McLeansboro, passed away 9:50 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015, at Unity Point Methodist Hospital in Peoria. She was born Nov. 18, 1946, in Eldorado, the daughter of M. Wendell Carlton and Mary Ellen (Jones) Carlton. She is survived by her mother, Mary Ellen Carlton of Mt. Vernon; one brother, Marvin Carlton of McLeansboro; two nieces; one nephew; and four great- nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Wendell; and brother, David Carlton. She was a music teacher employed by District 150 in Peoria. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Peoria. She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in McLeansboro. She enjoyed playing in various orchestras and musical groups, traveling and reading. She was a 1964 graduate of MTHS in McLeansboro. The memorial service was held 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Revs. Jim Peak and Robert Morwell officiating. The visitation was held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Ms. Carlton had requested to be cremated and a private burial of ashes will be conducted at a later time. Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro is in charge of all of the arrangements.
