Harold's Story

Harold Dean Johnson, age 92, a resident of McLeansboro, IL passed away at his home at 5:05 am on Thursday, July 7th, 2016.

He was a farmer, a US Navy veteran who served during World War 2, and a charter member of the Hamilton County Sportsmans Club. He was also a 32nd degree Mason who was a member of the Walpole Tuscan Lodge, which merged with McLeansboro Polk Lodge #137.

Harold Dean Johnson was born on July 25th, 1923 in McLeansboro, IL to his parents Frank Johnson & Vesta (Webb) Johnson, who both preceded him in death.  On December 27th, 1946 he married Wanda Faye (Powell) Johnson who survives.

He is survived by his wife Wanda Johnson, 2 daughters:  Sandy Milligan of Harrisburg, IL and Linda (husband Tom) Prince of McLeansboro, 2 grandsons:  Shannon Dean Hankins (significant other Susan Schwartz) and Jeremy Devoy, 3 great grandchildren:  Alyssa Devoy, Jonathan Devoy, and Justin Dean Devoy, and caregiver Robin Graham.

He was preceded in death by both parents Frank & Vesta (Webb) Johnson, and 2 brothers:  Beryl Johnson & Jack Johnson.

Funeral services for Harold Dean Johnson will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 9th, 2016 at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with Rev. Marty Lamp officiating.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, July 8th at the Gholson Funeral Home with a Masonic service at 7:00 pm.

Burial will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in McLeansboro with military rites performed by the American Legion Post #106 at the gravesite.
