Helen Elizabeth Walk, 88, of Wood River and formerly of Bethalto, died 11:25 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015, at St. Anthony’s Healthcare in Alton. She was born Nov. 19, 1926, in Dahlgren, the daughter of Frank Rost and and Mary Magdaline (Anselment) Rost. She is survived by two sons, Robert Lee Maulding of East Alton and Boyce Alan Walk of St. Louis; three sisters, Eleanor Rankin of Carmi, Mary Lou Brown of Phoenix and Floann Reyling of McLeansboro; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Leo Rost, John Rost and Edward Rost; and two sisters, Lucille Allsbury and Irene Kreher. She was a resident hall director at Illinois College for 11 years; she retired in 1993. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She was the past treasurer in the American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary in Palmyra. She was an activities director for Silver Strands in Palmyra. She was a former member of Modesto Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. The visitation will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, until the time of service.
