Henry Felix Skropka, age 88, of Dale, passed away at 12:02 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2014, at his residence. He was born May 26, in Harrah, Okla., the son of Michael and Hadwiga (Zayonc) Skropka. On Aug. 24, he married Gloria Roberta Mayberry and she survives after 56 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, William (wife Brenda) Skropka of McLeansboro, Darrell (wife Connie) Skropka of Ashley, Ganice Skropka of Woodlawn, Vance Skropka of Enfield, Jane Crowder of Harrisburg and Paula (husband Bryan) Henderson of Centralia; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Martha Kruger and Julia Manek, both of Oklahoma. He was of the Catholic faith and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He retired from Hunts Hardware Store in Dale after 26 years and also from the Billy Robertson Farms of Sims after six years. He will be greatly missed by all. He was previously married to Rosealie Wasik who preceded him in death along with two brothers, two sisters and his parents. Henry loved gardening, shooting pool, playing cards, fishing and dancing. Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with Father Slawmir Ptak officiating. Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 5, at Gholson Funeral Hime with a rosary at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Disabled Veterans of America and will be accepted at Gholson Funeral Home. The Gholson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
