Irvin Ragan, 78, lifelong resident of McLeansboro, passed away 3:17 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2017, at his residence.
As per his request, Mr. Ragan will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date. At this time there will be no services.
Irvin was loved by his many friends and he leaves a large family mourning his passing.
He was born Sept. 17, 1938, in Salem, Mo., the son of James Jefferson Ragan and Olive L. (Barker) Ragan.
He was the well-respected owner/operator of Ragan Backhoe Service. Irvin served in the U.S. Army and was Baptist by faith.
He is survived by three brothers, Randall Ragan and wife Diana of McLeansboro, Monty Ragan of McLeansboro and Bill Ragan and wife Sandra of McLeansboro; two sisters, Donna Betts and husband Ed and Rosemary Payne and husband Phillip of Macedonia; and sister-in-law, Becky Ragan of McLeansboro. Irvin was blessed to have such loving care from his longtime companion, Joy Welch. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
