Johanna Mayberry, 79, of McLeansboro, passed away at Breese Nursing Home in Breese on Friday, March 6, 2015, at 1:01 p.m. She was born on June 25, 1935, in Walberberg, Germany, the daughter of Andreas and Barbara Walburga Lamsfuss Schmitz. She married Charles F. Mayberry on April 28, 1961, in Bitburg, West Germany. Survivors include two sons, Pete Mayberry and wife Eileen of McLeansboro and Mark Mayberry of Phoenix; two daughters, Margaret Rose Nieuwsma and husband Steve of Bismark, N.D. and Sonya Zurliene and husband Gerard of Breese; two brothers, Ewald Schmitz and Adolph Schmitz, both of Germany; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and one on the way. She was preceded in death by her husband; and her parents. She was a homemaker. Funeral services were held at 12 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Alan Monroe officiating. The visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Burial was held at Prospect Cemetery near McLeansboro. Memorials may be made to Southern Illinois Hospice and will be accepted at Gholson Funeral Home. Gholson Funeral Home is in charge of all of the arrangements.
