John Richard Knight, 72, of McLeansboro, passed away 2:10 a.m. Monday, July 31, 2017, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Visitation will be 12 until 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Jim Peak officiating.
Burial of ashes and graveside memorial service at I.O.O.F. Cemetery will be held at 1:15 p.m. with military rites accorded by American Legion Post 106, McLeansboro and Military Honor Team of Marion.
He was born Nov. 24, 1944, in McLeansboro, the son of John Lynn Knight and Marguerite (Hutchcraft) Knight.
John worked as an electrician. John loved his dogs and being outside, fishing and attending the grandkids' activities. He served in the U.S. Army as a Vietnam veteran and was awarded a Silver Star and Purple Heart.
He is survived by son, Brian Daniel Knight of Las Cruces, N.M. ; daughter, Jennifer Knight of McLeansboro; four grandchildren, Justin Robert Kidder, Jarrett Allen Kidder, McLean Buchanan Knight and Morgan Kathryn Knight; two sisters, Judith Kay Hall of McLeansboro and Deanna Barnes of Odessa, Texas; fiancee, Tonyja Cruse of McLeansboro; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Karen Collie.
Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Foundation.
Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro, is in charge of arrangements.
