June's Story

Veda June Berry, 81, of Pekin, passed away at 6:20 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2014, at Timbercreek Rehab & Healthcare in Pekin. Born Feb. 25, 1933, in McLeansboro to David Harrison and Mary Myrtle (Ingram) Vaughn, she married George Henry Berry on Dec. 9, 1950, in McLeansboro. He died Dec. 21, 2007, in Pekin. She also was preceded in death by 13 of her 14 brothers and sisters. Surviving are five daughters, Carolyn Joyce (Glen) Brewer, Linda Kay (Mike) Dickson, Sandy Starnes and Candra Gouliard, all of Pekin and Molly Rosetta (David) Berry of Delavan; two sons, David Willis (Patricia) Berry of Pekin and Geoffrey Mark (Doug) Berry of Palm Springs, Calif; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Clyde Vaughn of Bartonville. A homemaker, June was of the Christian faith. She was a caring woman who gave her love to everyone. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, quilting and being with her family. For the last nine years, she resided at Timbercreek Rehab & Healthcare and had many friends. She was lovingly known as “June Bug” by both staff and the residents. Her funeral was held 10 a.m. May 10 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Paul Harshbarger officiated. Visitation was held 5 to 7 p.m. May 9 at the funeral home. Burial was in Woodrow Cemetery in rural Pekin. Because of her love for children, memorial contributions may be given to Children’s Home Association of Illinois at 2130 N.
