Naomi Ruth Carr, 75, of Carmi, died 6:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2015, at Barnes Jewish Extended Care in Clayton, Mo. She was born Feb. 17, 1939, in Springerton, the daughter of Delbert and Alice (York) Rankin. She married Everett Deon Carr and he survives. She was retired and worked as a secretary for Taylor Saw Mill in Enfield. She served as president of Ladies VFW Auxiliary in Carmi, was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary in Olney and was also a member of Carmi American Legion Auxiliary. In addition to her husband, she is survived by son, Bryce D. Carr of McLeansboro; daughter, Kimberly (husband Larry) Pretz of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, John Cole, Christina Cole, Kyle (wife Danielle) Rankin and Alex Carr; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Keith Rankin; one grandson, Michael Cole; and a sister, Jean O'Neal. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. David Woodruff officiating. Interment will was at Old Springer Cemetery near McLeansboro. Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the donor's choice and will be accepted at the Gholson Funeral Home, which is in charge of the arrangements.
