Norma's Story

Norma Ruth Jones, 80 years, 11 months and 27 days, of Mt. Vernon, went to be with Jesus Christ at 4:40 a.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016, at Lavender Ridge Memory Care in Effingham. She was born Tuesday, March 5, 1935, in Jefferson County, the daughter of Cleo Wilson and Rowena (Fairchild) Dycus. She married Jackie Lynn Jones on Sept. 3, 1951, at the home of her parents on College Street in Mt. Vernon and they were married for 40 years until Jack went on to be with our Lord in Heaven on Dec. 10, 1991. She is survived by two daughters, Debra Diane Hines and husband Tony of Belle Rive and Barbara Lynn Jones of Mt. Vernon; two grandchildren, Tonya Sue Wellen and husband Ron of Dahlgren and Scott Duane Hines and wife Jennifer of Zionsville, Ind.; sister, Sue Bird and Bill of West Frankfort; and five great-grandchildren, Adam Cole Wellen, Logan David Hines, Ashlee Nichole Wellen, Brooke Evelyn Hines and Adlee Grace Wellen. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Arthur and Virgil Wilson Dycus; and three sisters, Evelyn M. Snyder, Cecil Catherine Edwards and Imogene Castleberry. Funeral service was held Sunday, March 6, at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Pastor Brad Ryan and the Rev. Merle Fullerton officiating. Interment is at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Visitation was held Saturday, March 5, at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Norma loved being around friends and family. Growing up she had wonderful memories of being a wife and mother and also working at Mammoth Department Store for about 14 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Ina Freewill Baptist Church.
