Peggy J. Venable, age 84, a resident of McLeansboro, died 4:25 a. m. Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro. She was a home maker and she also worked as a caregiver. Peggy was born June 28, 1930, the daughter of Willard and Gretta (Wallace) Boyd in McLeansboro. She was member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church near McLeansboro. Survivors include five sons, Stephan Reed (wife Dorothy) of Carson City, Nev., Rick Reed (wife Diane) of McLeansboro, Gary Reed (wife Lisa) of Springfield, Kevin Reed (wife Wendy) of McLeansboro; and Alan Venable (wife Debbie) of Irvington; a sister, Thelma Lou Johnson of McLeansboro; seven grandchildren, Brian Reed, Gina Miller, Michelle Wirth, Ryan Reed, Garrett Reed, Killian Reed and David Venable; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, at Gholson Funeral Home of McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Burial followed at International Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery in McLeansboro. Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4 at the funeral home. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Mike Reed; four brothers; and two sisters. Memorials may be given to the Illinois Lung Association or the Disabled American Veterans and will be accepted at Gholson Funeral Home. Gholson Funeral Home, McLeansboro, was in charge of all arrangements.
