Robert D. "Bob" Szalla, 68, a resident of Genoa, passed away at Bethany Healthcare and Rehab Center in DeKalb on Tuesday, Jan 13, 2015, at 10:53 p.m. He was born July 11, 1946, in Chicago, the son of Al and Lottie (Bartkowski) Szalla. Survivors include one son, Bart Szalla of California; one daughter, Leslie Szalla of Wisconsin; one brother, Edward Szalla of Chicago; and six cousins, John Bartkowski of Georgia, Maryann Bartkowski of Hamshire, Barbara Hart of Streamwood, Bonnie Texley of Necedah, Wis., and Alice and Charles Mayberry of Genoa. He was preceded in death by his parents and his god parents, Walter and Nettie Baldwin. He was a retired draftsman and a part-time police officer in East Dundee. He was of the Lutheran faith. Graveside services were held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at New Prospect Cemetery near McLeansboro. Visitation was held 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice and will be accepted at Gholson Funeral Home.
