Ruth A. Hook, 99, of McLeansboro, passed away 10:20 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016 at McLeansboro Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, McLeansboro.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, at Blooming Grove Baptist Church, McLeansboro.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, at Blooming Grove Baptist Church with speaker Ralph Hays. Burial will be at Blooming Grove Cemetery, McLeansboro.
She was born July 31, 1917, in East St. Louis, daughter of Charles E. Duryea and Lula Agnes Fletcher.
She was a secretary and formerly employed by Western Hair Goods in St. Louis.
She married Eli Hook on Aug. 17, 1946, in St. Louis. He preceded her in death on July 17, 2014.
She was a member of Blooming Grove Baptist Church and was active in church choir and vacation Bible school. She was a member of Eastern Star, served as election judge in Hamilton County for many years and did volunteer work at McCoy Memorial Library in the Geneaology Department. Her hobbies included gardening, making rugs on her loom, sewing, painting, playing the organ but most of all going for walks with her grandchildren where they picked up rocks and arrowheads in or near the creek.
She is survived by two sons, Ralph Price and wife Verna of Granite City and Eli Hook Jr. and wife Joyce of McLeansboro; one daughter, Janet Lientz and husband Monte of Terre Haute, Ind.; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Eli; three sons, Charles Price, George Hook and Harold Hook; two grandsons, David Price and Donald Hook; and brother, Ben Duryea.
Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro is in charge of all arrangements.
