Thelma Morris, age 91, a resident of McLeansboro, passed away at 2 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2016, in the McLeansboro Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Sept. 20, 1924, in Hope, Ark., the daughter of Olin Otto and Margaret Joyce Hooker Lowrey. She married Vernon Jesse Morris on Sept. 20, 1943; he preceded her in death.
She worked as a bookkeeper, cosmetologist and cosmetologist teacher. She enjoyed bowling and her favorite color pink and she enjoyed country western music and Johnny Mathias. She enjoyed making soft cookies, great macaroni and cheese, banana pudding and oatmeal cake.
Survivors include a daughter, Joys S. (husband Thomas) Creed of Newport, Ore.; a son, Vernon Michael Morris of Napa, Calif.; also grandchildren Asher David Tobman and Annie Grace Tobman; a sister, Helen Thackery of Mt. Vernon; and a brother, Thomas Lowrey of Flint, Mich.
Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Sunday, June 12, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Burial was at IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro.
