Val Eugene Morris, 85 years and 7 months, of McLeansboro, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2014, at 2:24 a.m. at Hamilton Memorial Hospital. He was born in Saline County in Muddy, on Nov. 6, 1928, the son of John Albert and Beulah Grace (York) Morris. He was married to Janet L. (Billington) Morris. Val retired after about 35 years as an electronics technician. He was known as “the TV man.” He was a firm believer in his saviour and loved to sing. He was a happy man and liked to joke and laugh. He was always helping others. In addition to his wife, Mr. Morris is survived by seven children, Valerie, Ellen, Tim, Karen, Damon (April), Jim (Angie) and John (Joanna) Morris; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; his brothers, Cleatus “Sid” (Norma) Morris of McLeansboro and Wilburn “Todd” (Beulah) Morris of St. Francisville; sisters Ruby Mayo and Betty Davis of Fort Mohave, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Thelma; as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bernard Morris and Vernon “Jess” Morris; one sister, Ruth Jamieson; and two children, Bruce D. Morris and Patti L. Morris. Visitation was from 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2014, until the Celebration of Life service at 1 p.m. at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. The Rev. Robert Sefried officiated.
