Verla J. Richardson, age 64, a resident of McLeansboro, Illinois passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014, at 8:15 p.m. at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. She was a retired cashier from Huck’s Convenience Store in Carmi. Verla was born February 17, 1950 in McLeansboro. She was the daughter of Millage and Edith (Essary) Thompson. She married Merle Langley who is deceased and Kenneth Richardson who survives. Verla was a member of the Eagles Lodge and the American Legion Post #106 Auxilary. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Richardson, of McLeansboro; one son: Merle Edward (wife Cathy) Langley, III, and one step-son: Lewis Richardson, both of McLeansboro; two daughters: Jane (husband Brian) Guthrie, and Tina Langley, both of McLeansboro; three brothers: Larry Thompson of Dale, Robert Thompson and Rex Thompson, both of McLeansboro; one sister: Teresa Brown of Dale, and one twin sister: Vera (husband Tom) Smith of Dale. Seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Millage & Edith (Essary) Thompson, first husband: Merle Langley, great-grandson: Ezra Guthrie, brother: James Thompson, and a step-daughter: Becky Richardson. Funeral Services for Verla J. Richardson will be Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery near McLeansboro.
