Leonard Vernon Scrivner, 95, of Belle Rive, died 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family. Vernon was a lifelong farmer. He was a Pioneer Seed salesman for many years. He was born July 10, 1919, the son of Albert and Nellie Lucretia (Smith) Scrivner in Belle Rive. He married Nellie Alverta Shreve on Dec. 5, 1942. Vernon was a member of Long Prairie Missionary Baptist Church. His family and neighbors knew that if they needed help with anything, Vernon would stop his own work to give them a hand. He was an excellent handyman who could fix or build anything. He loved his children and grandchildren very much. Survivors are his wife, Nellie; two daughters, Linda Sandy and husband Larry of Opdyke and Teresa Karcher of McLeansboro; two sons, Gary Scrivner and wife Sue of Belle Rive and Donald Scrivner and wife Janet of Belle Rive; one sister, Freda Musgrave of Mt. Vernon; 10 grandchildren, Cheryl McKay and husband Don, Greg Scrivner, Jeff Sandy and wife Yvette, Megan Cammack and husband Daniel, Jessica Wilson and husband Treavor, Daniel Scrivner and wife Angi, Rebecca Richards and husband James, Bryan Karcher, Courtney Karcher and Nathan Karcher and wife Tracy; and 30 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin infant sons, Leonard Gale and Vernon Dale Scrivner; two sisters, Carrie Musgrave and Mildred Poston; and one grandson, Todd Sandy. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 24, 2014, at the Harre Funeral Home in Dahlgren. The Rev. Steve Hamson officiated. Burial was at the Opdyke Cemetery. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p. m. Thursday at Harre Funeral Home in Dahlgren. Memorials may made to the Long Prairie Missionary Baptist Church Food Pantry and will be accepted at the Harre Funeral Home in Dahlgren, which is in charge of all the arrangements.
