William H. “Jill” Dial, 89, of McLeansboro, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, at Heritage Woods Assisted Living Facility in McLeansboro. He was born May 21, 1926, in Flannigan Township, the son of George Washington Harrison Dial and Nancy Jane (Dungy) Dial. He married Eva Lorene Smith at Braden Valley Church on Dec. 25, 1946; she survives in McLeansboro. In addition to his wife, he is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jack Dial; and three sisters, Ada Douglas Whittington, Georgia Belle Mansell and Margaret Dungy Taylor. He was an oil field worker and a farmer. He attended First General Baptist Church in McLeansboro. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on LST 908. He was a member of Walpole Tuscan Lodge for over 60 years. He was a member of VFW Post 1671. He was a member of American Legion Post 106. He loved to fish, hunt, travel, tell jokes and especially spend time with family and friends. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Jason Moore officiating. The visitation was held 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, at Harre Funeral Home. There was a Masonic Rites service at 7 p.m. by A.F. & A.M. Polk Lodge 137 and Walpole Tuscan Lodge. Burial was at Braden Valley Cemetery west of Dale. Graveside military rites were accorded by American Legion Post 106, McLeansboro, andthe military honors team of Marion. Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro is in charge of all of the arrangements.
