William “Bill” Hindahl, 85, of McLeansboro, died 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind. He was born March 19, 1930, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Diers William Hindahl and Daisy Marie (Willock) Hindahl. He married Darlyne Ann Manning on May 24, 1952, in West Point, N.Y.; she survives in McLeansboro. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Cathy Webb and husband Melvin of Dahlgren and Pat Connaway and husband Larry of Collinsville; four grandchildren, David Webb and wife Stacy of Dahlgren, Emily York (deceased) and husband D.J. of Troy, Dana Britton and husband Matt of Bloomfield, Ind., and Natalie Carlson and husband Cody of Troy; and 10 great-grandchildren, Dalton, Dacey, Trinity, Madeline, Andrew, Haley, Hannah, Jonathan, Eli and Benjamin. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Emily. He was the owner of Ben Franklin Store in McLeansboro. When his country called, he served in the Korean Conflict as a sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He attended Faith Lutheran Church in Mt. Vernon. He served in McLeansboro Kiwanis Club, McCoy Memorial Library Board, McLeansboro Golf Course Board, Hamilton Memorial Hospital Board, High Hopes Investment Club, Hamilton County Chamber of Commerce and the first McLeansboro Swimming Pool Board. He was a devoted, loving husband to his high school sweetheart, Darlyne, for 63 years. No one could have asked for a gentler, kinder and understanding dad. Being a grandfather and a great-grandfather were the delightfully wonderful parts of his life. Bill would always say, “I am so blessed.” He always thanked his Lord for these blessings and God was first in his life, making him such an inspiration of a Christian life to all who loved and knew him. Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with Pastor Joe Lecke officiating the service. The visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at Harre Funeral Home. Burial was at IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church of Mt. Vernon and will be accepted at Harre Funeral Home. Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro is in charge of all of the arrangements.
